Hendy Group is a new and used dealership group which has been established since 1859, and now operates 25 sites across the South Coast including locations across Devon, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey, West Sussex and East Sussex. In addition to this, Hendy Group dealerships also offer an extensive range of manufacturer-approved Aftersales services including servicing, MOTs, repairs and parts. They also offer assistance with Motability, van or car leasing and finance, and fleet and business customers are welcome to discuss their options at the dealerships.

As well as their franchised dealerships, the Hendy Group also operate two Hendy Car Stores, based in Exeter and Portsmouth, which have a large stock of quality used vehicles.

While I did proceed with the purchase of the vehicle in the end, I feel it is important to provide feedback on what was, unfortunately, a disappointing buying experience. I placed my deposit on 1 May and, later that same evening, discovered through an RAC/HPI check that the vehicle still had outstanding finance attached to it. Over the following two weeks, I repeatedly had to chase updates myself via phone calls and emails, rather than receiving proactive communication from the dealership. I appreciate that Ryan Taylorson was on annual leave during this period and that arrangements were made for a colleague to oversee the matter in his absence. However, throughout this time I received differing explanations regarding the status of the finance settlement. I was advised at various points that the payment had been included in a BACS run, that clearance was still pending, and later that the matter had been referred back to the branch that originally took the vehicle in part exchange, as discussed during my call with Adam from the sales team. I understand that finance settlements and HPI updates can occasionally take time to process. However, two weeks is a considerable period for a dealership to still be unable to confirm clear title to a vehicle being offered for sale. My concern was also heightened by the fact that a deposit had been accepted before the vehicle was confirmed as finance-free and ready for sale. While the issue was ultimately resolved and I completed the purchase, the delays, uncertainty, inconsistent information, and lack of clear communication significantly undermined my confidence in the process. The vehicle itself met my expectations, but the experience leading up to the sale fell well below the standard I would expect from a professional dealership. I was also disappointed that, despite the inconvenience, time spent chasing updates, and the uncertainty surrounding the purchase, no gesture of goodwill, compensation, or acknowledgment of the disruption caused was offered. Given the circumstances, some recognition of the impact on the customer experience would have been appreciated. I hope this feedback is taken constructively and helps improve communication, vehicle preparation, and customer service processes for future customers.
