I recently found a well-priced used Mini Cooper S and arranged a visit to see it. Liam, the salesman, was friendly and helpful throughout the initial process. After a test drive, I decided to put down a deposit and was told the car would be ready within a few days.
On Wednesday, I received a call confirming everything was in order, so I paid in full. However, the next day, I was informed that the V5 document was missing, meaning I couldn't collect the car on the agreed Friday. This was extremely frustrating, especially as I had already transferred my insurance and was now without a vehicle for six days.
I had made it clear from the start that I no longer live in the area and needed to return to work. Thankfully, I can sometimes work remotely, but the delay still caused unnecessary stress and disruption. What made matters worse was the focus on upselling services like paint and alloy protection, while a basic requirement - having the V5 - had not been handled properly.
Despite being told the V5 would be sent to the garage, it was sent to the previous owner. When I returned on Saturday to speak with Liam, I was told the car would be fully valeted. Unfortunately, it was still dirty - only briefly rinsed outside and not cleaned inside at all.
Although I was disappointed, I chose not to pull out of the deal because the car itself was exactly what I was looking for. After waiting nearly a week, the V5 finally arrived. When I collected the car, it was properly cleaned, and I appreciated the gesture of a full tank of fuel.
In summary: Liam was professional and courteous, but the dealership's handling of the paperwork - especially the missing V5 - was careless and avoidable. Given that the car had been on-site for at least a month, this issue should have been identified and resolved well before my purchase.
