"In this year of my Platinum Jubilee, it has given me pleasure to renew the promise I made in 1947, that my life will always be devoted in service” (Her Majesty The Queen, addressing the gathering of Commonwealth leaders in 2022)

Following the big Jubilee celebrations, we thought we should pause for reflection. Her Majesty The Queen is the first British Monarch to have reached such a momentous milestone, hence we believe its commemoration is so important. We have witnessed many highs and lows over the past few years, but it is worth stepping back to consider her reign.

A Timeline of Excellence

The Queen’s 70-year reign, in itself an impressive achievement, has been characterised by leadership and compassion. The Queen was aged 27 when she was crowned on 2 June 1953, following the passing of her father, King George VI. It is hard to image the enormous pressure Princess Elizabeth must have been under, her whole life suddenly being laid out before her.

Her Majesty’s choices in her early life set an impressive example to all those around. As Princess Elizabeth, she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service in 1945, becoming the first female Royal to join the armed services as a full-time member.

The Queen’s marriage to Prince Phillip in 1947, is a partnership to admire and aspire to. Phillip became a source of loyal support and their dedication to one another throughout their marriage is truly admirable.

In a period marked by both political and social change, The Queen has prioritised diplomatic duties for much of her reign, including becoming the first British royal to visit Germany since 1913. “Her visit marked the 20-year anniversary of the end of World War II, helping to symbolize the reconciliation between the two countries and recognize Germany’s re-emergence as a power in Europe and on the world stage.” (Pruitt, 2022)

The Queen has dedicated much of her reign to charity work, having travelled across the globe to “over 70 cities and towns in 50 counties in the United Kingdom.” (Pruitt, 2022)

In 1997, the tragic news of Princess Diana’s death, highlighted The Queen’s resilience as a figurehead, keeping her family together and trying to protect them from the press. Her continual strength to continue her public duties after her husband Phillip’s passing also stands as a reminder to us all to keep going in times of hardship.

As a company, we place a high value on strength and determination to remain positive and forward thinking, even during testing times. The Queen has typified this approach over the years, serving as a role model to be celebrated. What we can learn from these inspirational figureheads is that no matter what your role or purpose is, doing a job well and delivering excellence, whether that’s customer service or simply sweeping the street, will be your key to success
